COBALT5S provides you with four options to power the unit.
In this guide, we explain the different options depending on your performance requirements.
Option 1: Powering via USB.
Connecting COBALT5S via USB to a Mac or Windows computer allows you to power the synth and use it with the free MODALapp available from our website to edit, save, import and export patches using your computer screen. MODALapp v2.8.0 or later must be installed for the COBALT5S to work correctly.
Option 2: Using a phone charger or power bank.
COBALT5S can be powered via standard USB phone chargers and other USB power methods. Simply connect the charger to the USB port and play/edit the patches as you wish. You can edit and save patches with the controls on the user interface. Please follow the instructions provided in the manual. Using this option doesn’t allow you to connect the MODALapp. Any patches saved internally will be available to the app next time it is connected.
Option 3: Powering via the optional power supply.
If the COBALT5S is powered via an external power supply, it doesn’t require USB power. The USB port on COBALT5S becomes available for USB over MIDI connection with MODALapp.
Option 4: Powering via mobile device
Mobile devices may be able to provide the correct power but some devices like iPads do not provide enough power via lightning or other outbound connections. This is mainly caused by the limitations of the mobile device’s design. If this method does not work with the device you are using, then please use one of the other methods listed here.
