SKULPT, SKULPTsynth SE, ARGON8 and COBALT8 synthesisers have the ability to link more than one unit together to increase the number of voices available for that setup.
If you are thinking of buying a second unit to perform this, we though you might like a beginners guide to how Polychain works.
The first rule is that the units have to be like for like. An Argon 8 can be chained to another Argon 8 but not to a Cobalt 8 and vice versa.
- Cobalt to Cobalt
- Argon to Argon.
Next, you need to understand how those voice allocations work on the units you connect.
On a stack 2 patch for instance, if you held 4 notes it would use all the (8) voices on the master, then if you held another four notes it would use the 8 voices on the slave.
Mono voice patches only use the voices on the master synth.
In Poly mode, (if you had 16 fingers), it would use up 8 master voices first and then the 8 slave voices.
So it just depends on the allocation of voices in the mode you are in that determines if it will then use voices from the slave unit or not.
You would also need to connect the audio outs of the 2 units to hear what is being produced by both.
When in Polychain mode, the slave control panel is disabled so control comes from the master unit.
We have produced a Modal Minute here that will give you some other information.
We hope you love this cool feature to expand your creative possibilities.
