MODALapp is a software editor for a wide range of Modal devices. MODALplugin is the plugin version of MODALapp, focusing on device integration with your DAW / plugin host application. For a full list of the additional features in MODALplugin please see the MODALplugin user manual.
Below are the differences between MODALplugin and MODALapp:
- MODALplugin doesn’t provide device auto-discovery – device is selected manually from the UI.
- MODALplugin doesn’t provide access to multiple devices from a single plugin instance – please use multiple plugin instances to connect to multiple devices simultaneously.
- MODALplugin doesn’t provide device firmware updating – please use MODALapp for this.
- MODALplugin doesn’t support CRAFTsynth 1.0 or CRAFTrhythm.
Apart from the points above, all features of MODALapp are also provided by MODALplugin.
*Note, not all older Modal products are compatible with both versions of the app. Please see our article here for which are.
Please also note that, like MODALapp, MODALplugin only routes MIDI messages through the device's USB connection - audio can only be accessed from the audio outputs of the supported Modal devices and then routed through a separate audio track in your DAW.
